Nautilus Underwater Wet Welding Electrodes are specially formulated for professional underwater welding, repair, and structural steel fabrication in both fresh water and salt water. These rutile flux-coated electrodes incorporate enhanced chemical formulations designed to produce dependable weld quality under demanding underwater conditions.
Each electrode has a clear, vinyl-based waterproof coating that provides strong resistance to water and moisture penetration. The coating also supplies electrical insulation for improved handling and diver safety while helping protect the electrode from physical damage. Nautilus electrodes produce a smooth, soft arc that is easy for qualified welder-divers to control. They offer reliable arc starting and restriking, an excellent weld finish, and slag that is easy to remove.
Nautilus underwater welding rods may be used with drag, oscillation, or step-back welding techniques. They operate within a recommended current range of 130–175 amps DC. For most underwater fillet welds, the manufacturer recommends starting within an optimal range of 135–155 amps.
The electrodes are approved for underwater use in fresh water and salt water and carry the UWE4914-1A (UWE7014-1A) electrode classification. According to the manufacturer, they comply with ANSI/AWS A5.35M requirements and produce weld quality in accordance with the AWS D3.6M Class A underwater welding code at depths down to 20 meters. Welding at greater depths may be possible when supported by an approved Welding Procedure Specification.
Nautilus wet welding electrodes are suitable for underwater structural steel repair, marine construction, commercial diving, ship and vessel maintenance, offshore applications, pipelines, docks, bridges, dams, and other submerged steel structures. Their waterproof construction, stable arc, easy slag removal, and all-position usability—excluding vertical-up progression—make them a dependable choice for experienced commercial divers and underwater welding contractors.
Each environmentally friendly triangular cardboard box contains approximately 90 electrodes with a total weight of 3.5 kg (approximately 7.7 lb). The electrodes are protected by a biodegradable heat-shrink sleeve and should remain in their original packaging until required.
