Pipe Plug Selection Notes
This pipe plug fits a nominal 8-inch pipe diameter and incorporates a 2-inch bypass connection for flow-through testing or partial flow management. From a selection standpoint, confirming the pipe condition and diameter is important since oversized or rough pipes can affect sealing. The special NR-SBR rubber compound reinforced with Kevlar tire cording affects the plug's inflation and backpressure ratings, so verify these limits based on the pipe material and expected pressure. The bypass connection must be checked for compatibility with required test flows and fittings.
Inflation And Control Planning
Inflation is performed using standard tire valves, which requires appropriate pressure gauges and inflation equipment capable of monitored inflation to the specified working pressure. The plug must be inspected prior to use for any cuts, abrasions, or rubber damage that could compromise performance. Protective sleeves may be used if pipe surfaces are rough or abrasive to prevent damage during insertion and retrieval. Inflation pressure should be monitored and maintained throughout use, as these plugs are not intended to be left inflated and unattended for lengthy periods of time.
