Choose electric by maximum hole diameter, cutter depth, available clearance, motor speed, magnetic holding force, power source, and the material and thickness of the workpiece.

Q: What surface conditions are needed for a magnetic drill?

The magnet needs clean, flat, ferrous material of sufficient thickness. Paint, scale, rust, curvature, thin material, and gaps can reduce holding force, so secure the drill with the required safety chain or strap.
